2010 Energy Accomplishments
Goal: Support policies to reduce emissions from electricity generated
- Achievement: House Bill 2010-1001 increases the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard to 30% (2ndhighest in country) by 2020
- Achievement: House Bill 2010-1328, Senate Bill 2010-100 provides options for PACE districts on state and multi-county level, respectively.
Goal: Explore Energy Conservation Audit and Disclosure (ECAD) Ordinance
- Achievement: Multiple Listing Service (MLS) will add “green” categories by the first
Goal: Provide energy efficiency and weatherization services and resources to Denver neighborhoods and households
- Achievement: YTD, 15 neighborhoods have been canvassed with over 2,500 homes implementing at least one energy action.
Goal: Add at least 4MW of new solar installations on City facilities, DIA and Denver Public Schools
- Achievement: A new project adds almost 4MW of solar PV to City and DPS buildings in 2010.
Goal: Initiate $2 million of cost-effective energy improvements to municipal buildings through EECBG
- Achievement: First set of retrofits has been authorized; audits and recommissioning completed on libraries and recreation centers. (The Central Library will save $150,000 annually as result of recommissioning work completed)
Goal: Replace 200 incandescent pedestrian traffic signals with LED bulbs to reduce energy use by 85 percent
- Achievement: Installation of 2,000 bulbs in 200 signals underway. Under-budget project will allow for retrofit of additional “countdown” indicators. Project part of continuous LED traffic signal retrofit, now including 98% of community’s traffic signals
Goal: Adopt a City Energy Conservation Policy to expand the Cool Biz concept year round
- Achievement: Policy adopted to begin this winter season based on thermal comfort strategy, which will save City an estimated $250,000 on utility bills as well as conserve energy
