Denver, Partners Launch Climate Challenge with Energy Audits in Sunnyside Neighborhood

October 9, 2008

Greenprint Denver partners with organizations to reduce carbon emissions

(DENVER) As part of a month-long pilot of its Denver Climate Challenge, Greenprint Denver will hold a concentrated "blitz" effort Saturday, Oct. 11 with volunteers going door-to-door offering free energy audits to every home in the Sunnyside neighborhood. Once completing a free audit, homes that qualify will receive energy improvements funded by the Governor's Energy Office and/or Energy Outreach Colorado. Non-qualifying homes will receive significant rebates.

Greenprint Denver formed a Neighborhood Collaborative Outreach group to support the Climate Action Plan initiative by providing information to Denver residents about sustainability. The Denver Climate Challenge pilot project is designed to concentrate resources on one neighborhood during a designated period of time with the intent of improving energy efficiency and providing support materials to one community in Denver.

The Sunnyside neighborhood was selected for the pilot because neighborhood data provided by participating organizations showed that Sunnyside has a high rate of energy use, mixed income range, and a manageable number of households. These factors made the neighborhood most likely to have a high rate of success.
