Creating a Vibrant Community Together
Greenprint Denver is built on a foundation of the efforts of many individuals who are each dedicated to Mayor Hickenlooper's mission of ensuring a prosperous community where people and nature thrive together in harmonious balance.
Overseeing this initiative is Michele Weingarden, director of Greenprint Denver, who joined the program in September 2007, bringing a decade of experience serving as a liaison for environmental campaigns involving local governments, businesses and the public.
To develop the plan's strategic action agenda, more than 50 staff from multiple city agencies worked with Greenprint Denver members during an intensive six-month planning process in 2005 to inventory the city's activities, research best practices nationally, and determine priorities and metrics.
The Mayor's Greenprint Advisory Council, a leadership group comprised of city department heads and diverse community leaders from throughout the region, further refined the focus of the effort from 2006-2007.
The result, the Greenprint Denver Action Agenda, is a pragmatic and far-reaching plan to reduce Denver's environmental "footprint", to ensure a healthy city for future generations of Denver residents, and to create opportunities for a new economic development focus.
